Of the 32 states that receive more (in federal spending) than they contribute (in federal taxes) 27 of them (84%) are republican. 

I understand the point that is trying to be made. I really do. But if you’re going to try and convince people of this point, one way or another, then please, please, please use updated information in your research. Election data from W’s second term is no longer valid.
Colorado is no longer a red state, and New Mexico even more than Colorado. Missouri, Nevada, West Virgina, and Arkansas all lean blue now, which makes them purple, at best.
I’m not picking the 2008 election data to back this up. Local and state municipalities have shifted, because really, our priorities and our mindset as a country have shifted. Data from 2004 might as well be data from 1984. It’s outdated and irrelevant as soon as a new party takes political control and begins to implement new policy.
Like I said, I get it. Hypocrisy = terrible thing. Hypocrisy in political office = one of the worst things. I don’t disagree with it.
Just focus your research in a more relevant direction next time, Jesse Erlbaum.
